Welcome to Trezor.io/start, the official place to begin your hardware wallet journey. If you’ve purchased a Trezor Model One, Trezor Model T, or any new Trezor device, this page is designed to help you set it up correctly, safely, and confidently. Your Trezor wallet gives you full control of your digital assets, but proper setup is essential to ensuring long-term security.
This onboarding guide walks you through every step—from unboxing your device to receiving your first cryptocurrency—with clear instructions written for beginners and experienced users alike.
What Is Trezor.io/Start?
Trezor.io/start is the official Trezor setup portal where new users go to:
Download Trezor Suite, the all-in-one management app
Install firmware on their device
Generate a secure recovery seed
Learn how to send and receive cryptocurrency
Understand best security practices
Access step-by-step video and written guides
This is the ONLY legitimate setup page for Trezor devices. Always type the URL manually or use the QR code from the packaging. Avoid third-party websites or links—they may be phishing attempts.
Why Trezor Is a Leading Choice for Crypto Self-Custody
Trezor is known as the original hardware wallet, launching in 2014 and establishing the standard for secure offline crypto storage. Unlike exchanges or software wallets, which keep your private keys online, Trezor stores your keys in a secure offline environment.
With Trezor, you gain:
Full ownership of your keys
Offline protection against hacking, phishing, and malware
Physical confirmation for every transaction
Open-source transparency, allowing independent security audits
Wide coin support, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, and thousands of tokens
Integration with Web3 and DeFi apps while keeping keys secure
Your Trezor empowers you with true financial independence—so starting correctly is key.
Unboxing Your Trezor Device
Before setup, inspect your box carefully. Inside, you should find:
Your Trezor Model One or Model T
USB or USB-C cable
Recovery seed cards
A quick-start guide
Model T only: magnetic dock
Trezor NEVER includes a pre-written recovery seed.
If the seed card has words already written, or the device appears initialized, stop immediately—this indicates tampering.
Your recovery seed must be generated ONLY by your device during setup.
Step 1: Visit Trezor.io/Start
Open your browser and go to https://trezor.io/start.
Double-check the URL to avoid phishing scams.
Once on the page:
Select your Trezor model (Model One or Model T)
Follow the device-specific instructions shown
Install the recommended software
This page ensures you’re downloading official, secure tools required for setup.
Step 2: Download Trezor Suite
Your next step is downloading Trezor Suite, the official desktop application used for:
Checking balances
Sending and receiving crypto
Managing accounts and tokens
Updating firmware
Storing transaction history
Connecting to Web3 apps
Trezor Suite is available for:
Windows
macOS
Linux
A web version exists, but the desktop version is strongly recommended for maximum security and offline signing.
Install Trezor Suite and launch it to begin your setup.
Step 3: Connect Your Trezor Device
Plug your Trezor into your computer using the provided cable. Trezor Suite will automatically recognize the device and guide you through:
Firmware installation
Device naming
PIN creation
Recovery seed generation
Adding accounts
This guided workflow ensures you don’t miss any critical security steps.
Step 4: Install Your Firmware Safely
New Trezor devices ship without firmware installed. This is a security measure to ensure that YOU are the first person to install official firmware.
When prompted:
Click Install Firmware in Trezor Suite
Confirm the installation on your Trezor screen
Firmware updates include:
Enhanced security patches
Support for new coins
User interface improvements
Only install firmware through Trezor Suite—never from unofficial sources.
Step 5: Create Your Device PIN
Your PIN prevents unauthorized physical access to your Trezor.
Tips for a strong PIN:
Avoid simple or repeated numbers
Do not use birthdays or predictable patterns
Memorize it or write it down and store securely
You’ll enter your PIN each time you plug in your device.
Step 6: Generate and Secure Your Recovery Seed
This is the single most important step in your entire onboarding process.
Your Trezor will now generate a 12-, 18-, or 24-word recovery seed. This seed is the master key to your wallet. If your device is lost, damaged, or stolen, your seed is the ONLY way to recover your crypto.
What to Do
Write the seed down carefully on the provided recovery cards
Keep the words in the correct order
Double-check every word
Store your seed in a private, safe, offline location
Consider using a fireproof metal seed backup
What NOT to Do
Do NOT take photos
Do NOT store it in cloud services
Do NOT type it on your phone or computer
Do NOT share it with anyone
Do NOT lose it
Trezor support will NEVER ask for your recovery seed.
If someone asks, it is always a scam.
Step 7: Create Crypto Accounts in Trezor Suite
After securing your seed, Trezor Suite will ask you to create accounts. Each blockchain requires its own account—for example:
Bitcoin account
Ethereum account
Litecoin account
Cardano account
To add an account:
Open Trezor Suite
Click Add Account
Select the cryptocurrency
Confirm on your Trezor device
Your account appears in the dashboard
Now you can monitor balances and view your portfolio.
Step 8: Receive Cryptocurrency Into Your Trezor
Now your wallet is ready to receive crypto.
To receive funds:
Select Receive in Trezor Suite
Choose the correct account
Connect and unlock your device
Verify the receiving address on your Trezor screen
Copy or scan the address
Verification on the device screen ensures the address hasn’t been altered by malware.
You can transfer crypto from exchanges, apps, or other wallets using this address.
Step 9: Send Crypto With Full Security
Sending crypto is just as secure:
Go to Send in Trezor Suite
Enter the recipient’s address
Enter the amount
Review the transaction details
Confirm the transaction on your Trezor device screen
The transaction will not be sent unless you physically approve it on the device—ensuring your funds remain protected.
Using Trezor With Web3, NFTs, and DeFi
Trezor also allows you to connect securely to Web3 and decentralized apps through trusted integrations such as:
MetaMask (for Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains)
Decentralized exchanges
Staking platforms
NFT marketplaces
DeFi lending and trading apps
Your private keys never leave your device—giving you a safe gateway into Web3.
Security Best Practices for Trezor Users
To keep your crypto safe long-term, follow these essential precautions:
1. Protect your recovery seed above everything
Do not share it, digitize it, or store it online.
2. Keep Trezor Suite updated
Updates include security improvements and new features.
3. Verify every address on your device
Never trust only what appears on your computer screen.
4. Beware of fake support agents
Trezor support will never ask for screenshots, seed words, or remote access.
5. Double-check URLs
Only use official Trezor websites and apps.
